Barnala : Treated water from the sewerage treatment plant of Barnala will irrigate 1350 acres of land of around 230 farmers thereby givibv much needed relief to the underground water depletion.Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mr Harish Nayar said while visiting the Sewerage Treatment Plant on Bajakhana road today. He was accompanied by the ADC (G) Mr Amit Bamby.DC and ADC reviewed the construction of drain, which will carry treated water to fields.
Appreciating the efforts of Sewerage Department in running the 20 MLD (million liters per day) plant, Deputy Commissioner said that now work on laying the drains was in full swing.Mr Harish Nayar added that the soil conservation department was executing project of laying drains at a cost of Rs 5.95 cr. The work will get completed and drain would be commissioned by June 30.He added that the treated water will be provided for irrigation purposes to around 230 farmers, who will irrigate 1350 acres of land using this water.
He added that in today’s time when fast depleting underground water table was a challenge for Punjab’s agrarian economy, projects like these paid a crucial role in saving precious underground water table.ADC Mr Amit Bamby added that the drain carrying treated water will cater to the land which is now using tube wells to meet with irrigation demands. He added that utmost care is being taken of to maintain high quality standards in execution of this project.Prominent among others included SDO Sewerage Board Mr Rajinder Singh, soil conservation officer Barnala block Mr Mandeep Singh and others.
