DC Embarks Special Drive To Provide Blankets To All Shelter Less People In The District

Jalandhar : In a humanitarian gesture to keep homeless people from freezing temperature ahead of the winter season, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Ghanshyam Thori on Wednesday night embarked on a unique drive to provide blanket and warm refuge to all shelter-less people in the district. While launching the drive, the deputy commissioner visited city and Cantt railway stations, Pathankot bypass chowk, Devi Talab Mandir, and other public places, and personally muffled poor people with the blankets.Divulging more, the Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration would cover all homeless populations to provide them with a warm refuge so that they don’t face any hardship during the winter season. Further, he issued a helpline number 8556918229 and exhorted people to call this number if they found anybody in need of a blanket adding the administration’s team would personally visit the spot and provide blankets.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner reviewed the arrangements at various Rain Baseras in the district and issued on spot directions to the officials to ensure that all the homeless people get shelter at these Rain Baseras.The deputy commissioner directed the concerned departments to bring homeless people to the shelter homes to ensure them a warm refuge.Reiterating his commitment to serve underprivileged sections, Thori called upon people to join hands with district administration in its endeavour by donating maximum to Red Cross society so that their help could reach the needy people. He categorically mentioned that the district administration would leave no stone unturned to help shelterless people during the winter season and urged people to inform at the helpline number whenever they notice any homeless without blanket or shelter.The deputy commissioner has asked all the Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to conduct a survey in their respective jurisdiction to check people sleeping outside and send blanket demand to the DC office. He further added that the blankets would be provided from the District Red Cross society besides directing officials to ensure the distribution of the same through CRO level officers.
