15 Girls of the City Beautiful awarded on the occasion of National Girl Child Day 

Celebrating the National Girl Child Day, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) organized award ceremony of topper achiever girls of Government School in city beautiful at GGMSSS-18, Chandigarh. Chandigarh : Celebrating the National Girl Child Day, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) organized award ceremony of topper achiever girls of Government School in city beautiful at GGMSSS-18, Chandigarh. Chief Guest Sh. Sarpreet Singh Gill, Education Secretary, Chandigarh Administration awarded 15 top students with cash amount of Rs. 5000 each along with certificate for exemplary performances in Academic and Non- Academic Fields. Additionally, Commission also gave token of appreciation to Self Defence Girls Team and provided treat all the 300 girls students present in the school. Welcoming the Chief Guest Mr Sarpreet Singh Gill, Education Secretary, Chandigarh Administration; Mrs. Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson CCPCR spoke on the importance of girl child and gave examples of female role models from the audience. She spoke of the importance of equal rights and opportunities for girls and boys. She warned of the social evil of gender discrimination and spoke about social welfare that would be the result of the discrimination coming to an end.

Followed by the Award Distribution, there was a formal launch of the commission’s annual flagship programme “Gal Wakdi” Child Ambassador Programme, the chief Guest also crowned the girl ambassadors of the CCPCR i.e. Ms. Anju, Ms. Siya Monga, Ms. Gaurika, Ms. Kashvi Garg and Ms. Mannat for the year 2021. The Child Ambassadors were awarded with Sashes and Badges, to continue to spread awareness of Child Rights’ in Chandigarh. They were greeted and motivated by Ms. Shubjot, their predecessor. The self defence workshops were concluded through live demo by SWAYAM team of Chandigarh Police. The GGMSSS-18, Chandigarh performed Punjabi folk i.e. Bhangra. Addressing the gathering Chief Guest Mr Sarpreet Singh Gill, Education Secretary applauded the young girls for their enthusiastic performances and congratulated them for their exemplary achievements. He also spoke about the importance of the role of the commission and the impact of their efforts in making Chandigarh a Child Friendly City. On the occasion Mr. Karan Gilhotra renowned Philanthropist donated 20 smartphones for the deserving girls for their education to enable them to meet the digital divide. On this occasion Sh. Rubinderjit Singh Brar, PCS, Director School Education, Chandigarh Administration, Prof. Monica M Singh and Ms. Pooja Punchhi, Members, CCPCR, Sh. Chanchal Singh, RTE Consultant, Ms. Niti Mohan, CCPCR and Ms. Raj Bala, Principal, GGMSSS-18, Chandigarh were present.
