S.A.S.Nagar : Taking a serious note of significant dip in cases for Antenatal Care (ANC) registration, Aashika Jain, ADC(General) directed the Civil Surgeon Mohali to ensure maximum ANC registration followed by hundred percent institutional deliveries. She was presiding over the meeting with the health officials for monthly review of the ongoing schemes at the District Administrative Complex, Mohali.Ruling out pre-occupation in COVID19 containment duties as the plausible reason for the fall in registration, Additional Commissioner General said ,“COVID19 duties should not be at the cost of extending regular health services; we need to strike an optimum balance between the two.” These are testing times and we should not hesitate to go an extra mile if the course of duty demands, reiterated ADC.“The fall in ANC registration from 98% to 78% is phenomenal; we need to reach out to the relevant segment of pregnant ladies who need to be counseled on antenatal care”, said Aashika Jain. ANC registration helps to keep a tab on recognition of pregnancy related complications/ailments and in extension of subsequent treatment. This is crucial to contain maternal mortality, said she and added the ANMs must keep track of all the pregnant women of their area and ensure that they receive ANC from the Government or private sector as per their choice. She also took cautioned the expectant mothers against the myth of COVID 19 exposure in hospitals and informed that the fact of the matter is that government hospitals have helped COVID positive mothers to deliver healthy COVID free babies. So, they should not fall prey to untrained mid-wives and opt for institutional deliveries. The meeting was attended by various senior officials of the district administration and the doctors from the local health department.
