Police’s Campaign Against Illegal Lottery Business, Arrest 11 In Separate Raids

Cops Recover Rs 59900 Cash, Mobile Phones, Motorcycle, Swift Car Along With Illegal Gambling Material

Kapurthala : In a major drive against the illegal lottery centres mushrooming in the city, the district police on Thursday arrested 11 persons and seized cash worth Rs 59900, mobile phones, one motorcycle and a Swift car.The arrested accused have been identified as Sunil, Manoj Kumar, Jagmohan, Sukhwinder Singh, Sukhpal Singh, Balwinder Singh, Karamjit Singh, Kulwinder Singh, Munish Mehta, Aman and Amarjit Singh.Disclosing more information, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that the raids were carried out under the supervision of SP(investigation) and Deputy SP (investigation) to curb sale of illegal lotteries/Parchi/Darha-satta in the city.He said that special teams were formed to ensure simultaneous checking at illegal lottery stalls operating under the pretext of government-authorized lottery centres.SSP said teams checked the lottery centres in area nearby Gian Nath Dera in City Police Station Kapurthala and Miani Bakarpur areas in Police Station Dhilwan and arrested eleven people for indulging in this illegal activity and duping the people.He added that police teams seized Rs 59900 cash along with mobile phones, one motorcycle, Swift car and other gambling material and different cases were registered in this regard under sections 420 and 13A-3-67 of IPC at Police Station City Kapurthala and Dhilwan.SSP Khakh told that the accused were not only befooling people but were also causing loss to the state exchequer.He said that this special campaign would continue to wipe out the menace and strict action would be taken against the culprits.
