Girls India Project Launched In 5o Schools Covering Over 25000 Girls

Chandigarh : Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) & Yuvsatta-NGO jointly launched a unique ‘GIRLS INDIA Project’ at Carmel Convent School with active participation of Principals of 50 prominent private and government Schools of the city.Sharing about the programme Bibi Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR said that they are targeting to cover 25000 girl students in first phase of the endeavour and to realize the same 25 prominent private Schools of the city will be collaborating with 25 Government Schools catering to students from villages and slum settlements of the city. Plus, through School buddies of Girls India, in which a Govt. School students will be connected with a private School student, the focus will remain on promoting girls’ rights at all levels with slogans of ‘Demand & Claim UR Rights’.She further added that the participating girls are expected to connect online on google meet or zoom with each other after their school hours, at a time suiting their convenience, five days a week, 30-45 minutes daily or min. two and half-hour weekly or around 10 hours a month, interacting with each other on issues of academic interests and girls’ rights. So that a spirit of comradaire develops and they realize their true potential.S. Swarn Singh Virk, founder of the famous Baba Aya Singh Riarki School & College, Tugalwala, Gurdaspur-the Shanti Niketan of Punjab was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Appreciating the efforts of Mr. Virk to promote girl’s education Mrs. Ravinder Kaur, Dy. Director, Education Department, who was the special guest of honour said that the Baba Aya Singh Riarki’s model in which education is at the core with senior students teaching the junior ones, without teachers, is a unique and commendable service to the nation. And the ‘GIRLS INDIA’ programme here also contains the same spirit of empowering girls from within.
Prominent people who addressed the gathering include Mrs. Kavita C. Das, Principal of St. John’s High School, Sr. Mary Supreeta, Principal of Carmel Convent School, Mrs. Monica Bhatia, Principal of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Pooja Punchi, Member and Mr. Chanchal Singh, Adviser of CCPCR, Chandigarh.In his concluding remarks Pramod Sharma, founder of Yuvsatta-NGO shared that all the participating ‘GIRLS INDIA’ students will be known as ‘GIRLS PARLIAMENTARIANS ‘. And for better understanding and coordination they’ll be divided into sticks of 8-10 girl’s students each. Plus, further these girl parliamentarians, will democratically choose for a rotational term of three months, one Girl Minister, further Girl Minsters can select one President, One Prime Minister, One Speaker, One Dy. Speaker and Ministers. And this Ministerial team is expected to hold weekly, monthly meets on issues of girl’s rights like social media and cyber security, good education, exercise & health, mental health, food & nutrition, menstrual hygiene and safe disposal of sanitary pads, teenage suicides, good touch-bad touch, whom to complaint in case of sexual abuse, child marriage and teenage pregnancy etc.Girls Parliamentarians will also be initiating a ‘My Body, My. Rights campaign?’, to protect sexual and reproductive rights now and for the next generation, educational excursion and organization of a two days Model United Nations, twice a year is also on anvil.All the participating 50 private and government Schools signed a MOU with CCPCR and Yuvsatta-NGO, in order to bring change and alleviate this social malady of discrimination against girls and women in the society.
