300 cartons of smuggled IMFL worth 7 lakhs seized, 01 accused arrested

Fatehgarh Sahib : Under the able guidance of Excise and Taxation Minister Sh. Harpal Singh Cheema and Excise Commissioner Shri Varun Roojam I.A.S. and under direct supervision of Sh. Gurjot Singh Kaler (A.I.G) EXCISE POLICE and Sarupinder singh ,(EXCISE OFFICER),Fatehgarh Sahib.

In a major haul at the very beginning of the new year, the Excise Department Fatehgarh sahib and Excise Police seized 300 cartons of smuggled Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) with an estimated value of 7 lakh rupees, which were being smuggled from Chandigarh to Punjab.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the Excise Department said that acting on a tip-off the Excise Department and Excise police were conducting vehicle checks near Madhopur in Fatehgarh Sahib district on Monday late evening, when it intercepted a Canter No. PB03BH1683.

He said that 300 carton boxes of IMFL marked as for sale in Chandigarh only were found concealed in the vehicle.He said that an FIR in this regard has been filed under the Excise Act and a person was arrested on the spot.

The spokesperson further added that Punjab Finance, Excise and Taxation Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema has directed the department to thoroughly probe the case so that strictest action could be taken against people involved in the liquor smuggling.

“The Minister has directed the department to follow zero tolerance against illicit liquor trade”, said the spokesperson.
