Chief Minister must tell what special been done for Punjab in special session of Vidhan Sabha: Harpal Singh Cheema

Just pretentiousness on the issues of PPAs and BSF

Chandigarh : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab termed the two-day special session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha by the Congress government as a failure and asked Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi; what special was done for the benefit of Punjab and its people in the special session of Assembly. Senior leader of the AAP and Leader of Opposition, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Channi government had only staged a drama in the name of a special session of the Legislative Assembly and had wasted crores of rupees of Punjab on this drama.Addressing a press conference held at the party headquarters here on Friday, Harpal Singh Cheema said, “The Congress government has certainly held its last assembly session, but the decisions and problems that have ruined Punjab are still there. In over four-and-a-half-years of the Congress rule, the Congress has only politicized issues of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, power purchase agreements, unemployment along with drug, cable, sand and transport mafia; but no concrete decision has been taken in the interest of Punjab and Punjabis.”He said from former Congress Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to Congress state president Navjot Singh Sidhu and current Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and other leaders were talking about cancellation of power deals; but now the Charanjit Singh Channi-led government and the Congress led by Navjot Singh Sidhu have only done the job of pretence by talking of revising power tariffs and not canceling power deals.

Cheema alleged that the Congress government had flouted the Constitution and democracy in the name of special sessions as the Assembly sessions used to last for months. But earlier the SAD-BJP government had reduced these sessions from months to days and now the Congress government had reduced the sessions from days to a few hours. He questioned what could be discussed on the issues of Punjab in a few hours’ session. In fact first Capt Amarinder Singh and now Charanjit Singh Channi had run away from facing public issues. Not only this, during the session, the opposition MLAs were encouraged to change their party by flouting the Act. Also, which Punjabi mother tongue was served by introducing the draft of bills regarding Punjabi language in English language? The BSF issue was also summed up by condemning it. Therefore, this special session did not serve the interests of the people of Punjab, said Cheema. The LoP further said that the Assembly session should have been convened for at least 15 days to discuss the problems of Punjab with an open mind and the session should have been telecast live on channels. But the Channi government has banned the media cameras. Cheema questioned how the major issues of Punjab could be resolved in the session with a 2-4 minute debate in commotion. While future issues of unemployment, farmer loans, thousands of outsourced workers, employees and pensioners, nurses and NRHM employees including guest faculty teachers of government colleges are demanding answers from the government.Replying to a query about Sukhpal Khaira, Harpal Singh Cheema said that Khaira family should bring the truth before the people instead of making false allegations against the AAP supremo; as sometimes Sukhpal Khaira held Akali Dal responsible for this case, sometimes the Congress and sometimes the BJP. Accusing the Congress government of running away from the issues of Punjab, Cheema said that the people of Punjab would do the same to the Congress party in 2022 as was done by the Congress government and the party on the issues of the people of Punjab.

Box AAP to gherao Chief Minister’s residence on Nov 13
Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Aam Aadmi Party will gherao the official residence of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi in Chandigarh on November 13, because the Channi government has ignored the future issues of the state, including giving government job to Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhwa’s son-in-law Tarun Vir Singh Lehal; by leaving the sons and daughters of the common households, during the Assembly session. He said that the voice of the opposition was suppressed during the session and journalists were barred from entering the house. Therefore, the Aam Aadmi Party will now take to the streets and keep the issues of Punjab to the journalists and the people.
