Bharat Bhushan Ashu Lays Foundation Stone Of India’s First Instructional Gaushala

Ludhiana : Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of India’s First Instructional Gaushala in precincts of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University (GADVASU).The cost-effective Gaushala would come up at the cost of Rs 1.07 crore within eight months.He said that this state of art building would have covered cowshed area, Kuchha area, straw area, calving area, sick unit area, feed store, processing unit, biogas plant, vermicomposting pit, organic vegetable area and others and would act as lighthouse for other Gaushalas.After performing ‘Bhoomi-Poojan’ for the first of its kind Gaushala at the site, Bharat Bhushan Ashu along with Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor Inderjeet Singh, said that the project would work as model by guiding those engaged in cowshed management works and would help to improve the breed in the state besides would give a viable solution to the stray cattle menace.

The Cabinet Minister said that the most of Gaushalas face many challenges including inadequate resources, lack of trained manpower and veterinarians besides cowshed management personnel, do not have a proper scientific knowledge of feeding, housing, care and management of the animals.He said that Punjab Government would ensure fulsome support and cooperation to the GADVASU in this noble cause.Dean College of Veterinary Science Dr SPS Ghuman said that the aim of this Gaushala would be managing the stray cattle in self-reliant basis on scientific lines with available inexpensive techniques involving low cost comfortable housing, feeding and healthcare facilities.Director Research Dr JPS Gill said that demonstrating low cost management and feeding systems of stray animal management will help dairy farming industry of the state and society at large.Prominent among present on the occasion included Registrar Dr. H S Banga, DSW cum EO Dr S Rampal, Director Extension Education Dr. PS Brar, Dean PGS Dr. S K Uppal, Comptroller Dr. Amarjeet Singh, Dean College of Dairy Science and Technology Dr. Ramneek, Dean, College of Fisheries Dr. Meera D Ansal, Dean College of Animal Biotechnology Dr YPS Malik and large number of faculty members graced the ceremony.
