Ludhiana : Punjab Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu today inspected the ongoing work of Rail Under Bridge (RUB) and Rail Over Bridge (RUB) as well as smart Malhar Road, here. He was also accompanied by MC Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal, besides several others.It is pertinent to mention that the construction work of a Rail Over Bridge (ROB) and two Rail Under Bridges (RUBs) is going on in full swing in the city, along with the transformation of existing Malhar Road into a smart road. The construction of a Rail Over Bridge (ROB) and two Rail Under Bridges (RUB’s) on Pakhowal Road has been a long pending demand of the city residents. This joint project is worth around Rs 120 crore and would provide much-needed respite from traffic congestion to the city residents.Bharat Bhushan Ashu assured the residents that both these projects are close to his heart and would be completed within the set time frame as he is personally monitoring them on daily basis. He also assured the residents that he and his team is working overnight to ensure that best quality material is being used for both these projects.He informed that the ROB would be 839.83 meters in length and would be constructed from Sidhwan Canal side towards Hero Bakery side, along Pakhowal Road over existing Railway Track, the RUB 1 would be 458.20 metres in length (from Hero Bakery side towards Sidhwan Canal side, along Pakhowal Road under existing Railway Track), whereas the RUB 2 would be 1018.46 metres in length (from Ishmeet Road towards Rotary Club Road and Ferozepur Road & Ishmeet Road towards Pakhowal Road).
Ashu said that this project would prove beneficial for area residents who currently suffer due to traffic congestion on Pakhowal Road. He said that this project was one of the main promises that he had made with the residents of Ludhiana (West) constituency and he would personally supervise it.Later, he inspected the work of retrofitting of Sarabha Nagar market and up-gradation of Malhar Road. The total estimated cost of this combined project is around Rs 38.62 crore.While speaking on the occasion, Bharat Bhushan Ashu stated that the proposed project aligns with the overall goal for Smart City Ludhiana including the creation of better places for people in the city achieved by working on the objectives of landscaping of public open space to revitalise them as Urban public interactive & gathering place, improve quality of life by infrastructure up-gradation, clean & safe environment and a provision of smart features and amenities/facilities for public.While providing information regarding the up-gradation of Malhar Road as Smart Road, Bharat Bhushan Ashu informed that the project would include geometry improvement of road alignment and road intersections, designed parking spaces for two-wheelers and four-wheelers, dedicated cycle track and pedestrian pathway on both sides of road to provide safe and secure walking environment, landscaping along entire stretch of road, provision of smart features and amenities/facilities for public and to improve and upgrade road infrastructure for clean & safe environment.
