Baisakhi Mela will help to promote Kanjli wetland as tourist spot : Vishesh Sarangal

DC sends open invitation to people for enjoying Baisakhi Mela from April 23

Kapurthala : Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal on Friday said that Baisakhi Mela being organized by district administration in association with Indian Red Cross society at Kanjli Wetland on April 23 would not only help to promote this ecosystem place as tourist destination but would also disseminate the message of environmental conservation among masses. Reviewing preparations of the event at Wetland, Deputy Commissioner said that filmmakers from all over world used to come here for shooting of songs nearly two decades ago and it was one of major centre of tourism.

Earlier, the spot was also famous as boating point.He said that the administration would leave no stone unturned to redevelop this decades’ old world-famous wetland by holding Baisakhi Mela and roping in Indian Red Cross Society.Sarangal said that no entry fee would be taken from visitors and said that as many as 50 stalls by different departments, self help organizations.He added that the people would be also offered prizes through lucky draw coupons.

Deputy Commissioner said that the cultural programs by the students of various schools and colleges including giddha, Bhangra, Street plays and items would be performed during Mela besides renowned singers Sufi Sisters and Dalwinder Dayalpuri would mesmerize the people.Inviting the people to enjoy the fair at Wetland, Sarangal appealed the people to make it huge successful event by thronging in large numbers.Prominent among present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioners Aditya Uppal, Anupam Kaler, SDM Dr Jai Inder Singh and others.
