The Deputy Commissioner visits Fazilka Mandi to review arrangements

Fazilka : Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann completed all arrangements for smooth procurement of wheat in district. However, due to the wet weather this time, it may take 7 to 10 more days for the arrival of wheat in the mandies.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Senu Duggal IAS visited the local grain market after a meeting with the officials of various procurement agencies on Friday and reviewed the arrangements there. She instructed to maintain adequate arrangements of drinking water, light, shade etc. for the farmers in the procurement yards.

She said that it should be ensured that the produce of the farmers must be purchased immediately and they are paid as soon as possible within the government deadline. The Deputy Commissioner said that 95 procurement centers have been established in Fazilka district this year.

The farmers will get minimum support price of Rs 2125. “Last year, 5.97 lakh tonnes of wheat was procured in the district, while this time the target of 7.94 lakh tonnes of wheat procurement has been set,” she added.
Dr. Senu Duggal said that government procurement of wheat will be done by Pungrain, Markfed, Punsup, Punjab State Warehouse Corporation and Food Corporation of India (FCI) in the district.
She said that 31792 bales of bags have already available in the district which is 98 percent of the total requirement of bags. All the transport tenders have been done. She said that all the arrangements regarding the purchase have been made.
The Deputy Commissioner also assured the farmers that their whole crops will be procured. She appealed to the farmers to bring their clean and dry crops to the market. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Sandeep Kumar and Assistant Commissioner (General) Sarangpreet Singh were also present on this occasion.
