Kultar Singh Sandhwan Emphasizes On Making Legislative Assembly Committees More Effective And Active For Transparency And Accountability

Chandigarh : Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan emphasized on the need for greater transparency and accountability to ensure proper utilization of people’s money besides stressing on making the Legislative Assembly Committees more effective and active for the same.

Addressing the representatives of various committees of the Vidhan Sabha and senior officers in connection with the audit week at the office of AG Punjab here today, Sandhwan said that the role of Legislative Assembly Committees and CAG is very important to ensure proper utilization of government expenditure.

Emphasizing on the need for the various departments to discuss the audit paras within the stipulated time, he directed to ensure the presence of the heads of the departments/administrative Secretaries for the discussion of such matters so that the audit matters can be settled without any delay.

He said that reforms in the audit process are necessary to live up to the trust of the people. Meanwhile, the member of various legislative committee presented their ideas to improve the audit system.

At the outset Ms Nazli J. Shayin, Accountant General (Audit), Punjab welcomed the Hon’ble Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan, along with members of legislative committees of Punjab, various dignitaries and officers on the occasion of celebration of 2nd Audit Diwas.

She explained that CAG is mandated by the Constitution of India, to promote accountability, transparency, and good governance. She informed the importance of audit being conducted by the Audit teams to enable the respective offices made aware of the minutest rules and regulations. She has justified that the CAG and legislative committees are jointly responsible for public expenditure and fix accountability.
