AAP government will rehabilitate all poor families affected in Jalandhar’s Latifpura demolition drive

The demolition drive was carried out only on the directions of the Supreme Court, says Jagtar Singh Sanghera Jalandhar Chairman Improvement Trust

Chandigarh : Showing deep concern with people who become homeless after a demolition drive in Latifpura, carried out on the directions of the Supreme Court, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has decided to rehabilitate all the affected economically weaken section families after building top-class houses to them in Jalandhar.

Addressing a press conference at party’s headquarters here, AAP MLA Sheetal Angural from Jalandhar West, Raman Arora from Jalandhar Center, Chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang and Prof. Jagtar Singh Sanghera Chairman Improvement Trust Jalandhar, said that AAP is a pro-poor and pro-people government and this drive was carried out only on the directions of the apex court, which was fault of insidious policies of the previous governments.

AAP leaders lamented opposition for running calumnious campaigns against the state government over this sensitive issue and said that the successive governments were to be blamed for this demolition drive, which laggard this issue for years rather than finding a concrete solution.

Prof. Jagtar Singh Sanghera Chairman Improvement Trust said that these houses were built on public land. The Supreme Court had given a decision in favour of the trust. Moreover, the contempt of court case was also going on against trust in this matter due to which, the drive was launched and they have submitted a status report before the apex court on December 12. However, AAP is committed for the welfare of every section and the Mann government will allocate top-class houses to these people, he added.

Sanghera said CM Mann has categorically asked to rehabilitate the affected poor families at once and the efforts have already been started in this regard. He said that each family under the below poverty line, whose house was demolished in this drive, will be given a house with a kitchen, a bathroom and two rooms in Jalandhar very soon. MLA Sheetal Angural attacked the opposition and said that AAP is a pro-poor government and has been working assiduously to raise their living standards.
