Karnam Malleswari Calls on Bandaru Dattatreya

Chandigarh : Sydney Olympics-2000 bronze medalist in weightlifting and Delhi Sports University Vice Chancellor Karnam Malleswari paid a courtesy call on Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya at Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday. Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatreya discussed in details issues related to sports with Smt. Karnam Malleswari.Shri Dattatreya said the sports have developed like anything in the State in the last a few years and the interest of youths in sports has also increased manifold. “There is more potential in the state in the field of sports,” he said.The Governor, while appreciating several sports promotion programmes started by the state government, said that these efforts have resulted in the fact that a maximum of 30 players from Haryana are participating in Tokyo Olympics-2020.

Congratulating all the players, he said that they should give their 100 per cent in the Olympics. He hoped that sports persons from the state participating in Tokyo Olympics will bring laurels for the nation by winning medals.The Governor said that women players have started on a positive note in Tokyo Olympics-2020. Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has won the silver medal in weightlifting. It is a matter of pride for India. He has extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Mirabai Chanu.Smt. Malleswari also said that there is more interest among women for sports than men in Haryana. This time also 16 women players from the State are participating in Tokyo Olympics-2020. It is a matter of great pride for the people of the state, she said.
