Ferozepur : Swarnim Vijay Mashaal continuing its journey through the area of responsibility of Vajra Corps – Defenders of Punjab reached the most epic battle field of Asal Uttar literally meaning ‘Apt Reply’ to the enemy in war. The battle of Asal Uttar fought in September 1965 is regarded as one as one of the greatest tank battles.This battle led to the creation of ‘Patton Nagar’, also known as the ‘Graveyard of Patton tanks’. Battle of Asal Uttar is a saga of valour of Indian Army during which CQMH Abdul Hamid singlehandedly destroyed seven enemy tanks with a recoilless gun. He was honoured with Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest gallantry award posthumously for this exemplary act. In this battle our War heroes were honoured with a total of 01 PVC, 04 MVC, 10 VrC, 14 Sena Medal and the Vajra Warriors were bestowed with the Battle Honour : Asal Uttar and the Theatre Honour : ‘PUNJAB’.The Asal Uttar war memorial was initially constructed in honour of CQMH Abdul Hamid, PVC. Later to amalgamate numerous small war memorials which had come up in the area and to pay obeisance to our fallen Heroes collectively, a new war memorial was conceptualised and constructed in 2015. The Mashaal was taken by seniormost veteran Hony Capt Lakhbir Singh (6 SIKH) for the last mile run to the War Memorial to rever and respect those departed heroic souls, War veterans and their families.The Swarnim Vijay Mashaal will be taken for its final leg of its journey in the Golden Arrow Division to the famous battlefield of Chhina Bidhi Chand.
