Amritsar : On behalf of Global Punjabi Association, The book “Pre- Partition Punjab’s Contribution to Indian Cinema” written by Swedish World renowned author & political scientist , Mr. Ishtiaq Ahmed will be released in Mumbai by Mr. Subhash Ghai, Who known for his works in Hindi cinema, has been The book, published by Aakar Books, will be released on Saturday, May 13, 2023, in an impressive gala at the Karma Foundation Hall, Whistling Woods International Film City Complex, Goregaon East, Mumbai.
The timing of the event will be from 4.30 pm to 6 pm.Prof. Sarchand Singh said that the Patron of Global Punjabi Association S. Iqbal Singh Lalpura Chairman National Minority Commission and Association President Dr. Kulwant Singh Dhariwal Chairman World Cancer Care have invited the Punjab and Punjabi supporters to participate in the book release ceremony, organized by Global Association President of West India Mr. Rajan Khanna.
Mr. Subhash Ghai, Founder and Chairman of Whistling Woods International is one of the most popular producer-director, actor, lyricist, music director and screenwriter of Hindi cinema. Mainly due to his dedication and hard work, he became one of the most prominent and successful filmmakers of Hindi cinema throughout the 80s – 90s.
In 2006, he received the National Film Award for the best social issue-based film ‘Iqbal’. The same year he founded Whistling Woods International Film and Media Institution in Mumbai.The author of this research book Prof. Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed was born on February 24, 1947 in Lahore.
He holds a PhD in Political Science from Stockholm University. He is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Stockholm University. He has published several books, including the award-winning, Jinnah: His Successes, Failures and Role in History, Penguin New Delhi, 2020, which has won the Best English Non-Fiction Book award at the Valley of Words Festival, Dehradun, 2021.
His book, The Punjab Bloodied, Partitioned and Cleansed: Unraveling the 1947 Tragedy through Secret British Reports and First-Person Accounts, Oxford University Press, Karachi, won the Best Non-Fiction Book Award at the Karachi Literature Festival, 2013 and at Lahore Literary Festival, 2013.
Its Indian edition was published by Rupa Books, 2011. Urdu (2015), Hindi (2018) and Gurmukhi Punjabi editions of the book have also been published.On this occasion, Global Punjabi Association Honorary Secretary Dr. Jaswinder Singh Dhillon and Vice President Colonel Jaibans Singh said that preparations for the book release ceremony have been completed and there is great enthusiasm among all Punjabis and cinema lovers.
