Doda : An awareness programme was held at Subdivision Hospital Bhaderwah to observe World Down Syndrome Day. The event was organised by the District Health Society Doda and was presided over by CMO Doda, Dr AH Zargar.
BMO Bhaderwah Dr Mohd Ashraf Kuchay, Medical Officers and Paramedical Staff of the block were also present. During the programme, Dr Zargar spoke about Down Syndrome and its causes.
He explained that it is a genetic condition that is beyond medical intervention. He called for empathy towards individuals with Down Syndrome and for their rights to be safeguarded.
Another speaker discussed how children with Down Syndrome may have differences in facial appearance but emphasised that all children are equal and have equal rights.
The event also included interactions with individuals with Down Syndrome led by Dr Zargar to show them that they are treated equally with dignity and respect.
