SKUAST Jammu hosts lecture on Entrepreneurship, Employment Opportunities for Youth

Jammu : Vice Chancellor SKUAST of Jammu, Prof J P Sharma on Tuesday felicitated Satish Kumar, Coordinator Swadeshi Jagaran Manch and appreciated the Swavalambi Bharat Abhiyan for its role in transforming rural youth and developing entrepreneurship opportunities in India.

Satish Kumar delivered a lecture on Employment opportunities for the youth in UT of Jammu and Kashmir at Baba Jitto Auditorium of SKUAST Jammu.In his deliberation, Satish Sharma presented a concept note and motivated rural youth and students to become job providers and not job seekers.

He elaborated that the Swavalambi Bharat Abhiyan campaign aims to coordinate between job seekers and job providers and to encourage and support self-employment for new small scale enterprise, start-ups, cooperative based industries and establishment of employment generation centres at district level.

He further added that youths have to make a holistic plan to become a job provider across the nation. Mr Sharma also talked about the slogans for youth and developing entrepreneurship viz., Earn while you learn, start earning early, Passionate hard work, Risk taking capacity, Nation first Swadeshi must.

In his presidential address, Prof J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST Jammu talked of Self-employment, agribusiness, start-ups and entrepreneurship opportunities. Prof Sharma narrated the stories of successful entrepreneurs actually working on ground. He also advocated the students to Think big and dream big.

He informed that the Country has the largest workforce among 207 countries in the world and there are many new initiatives for entrepreneurship and job opportunities for rural youth especially of J&K under Atmanirbhar Bharat with funding under different agriculture and allied sectors. He further added that self-pride of the farmer should be maintained in addition to enhancing his income.

Prof Sharma also briefed about the various schemes available for youth like RKVY-RAFTAAR under which two programmes are functional in the SKUAST-Jammu viz., PRAGATI and UGDAM. Statutory officers of SKUAST Jammu, Head of the Divisions, Scientists, Students, and other staff members of Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry and Faculty of Basics Sciences attended the lecture. Ceremonial planting of Bottle brush was also planted on the occasion at the Research farm of Agriculture University at Chatha campus. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Rajesh Katoch, Dean Student Welfare of SKUAST Jammu.
