Road Safety Week-2023 : Multifarious activities held across Kathua District

Kathua : The week long ‘Road Safety Week 2023’ organised on the theme of Swachhta Pakhwada culminated in Kathua today. On the final day of the Road Safety Week, Deputy Commissioner Rahul Pandey presided over an awareness programme organised for Drivers and Conductors, here in the premises of RTO Office.

While speaking on the occasion, the DC impressed upon the driver and conductors to imbibe traffic sense particularly in the backdrop of traffic situation in the cities. He said “We cannot call ourselves a civilized society, if we don’t exhibit basic traffic sense while driving or parking.”

RTO Kathua Sunil Kumar gave a detailed outline about Road Safety and advised the gathering, particularly the drivers and conductors, Dealers, Transport Unions that it is high time to self introspect our own traffic discipline and develop the tendency to adhere to all traffic rules in letter and spirit.

He further implored the gathering to set an example for our younger generation by following road safety measures at all times. During the awareness camp, the eye sight of 72 drivers/ conductors was checked by the Medical Department.

Pertinently, RTO Kathua organised series of activities viz Road Safety Awareness programme regarding checking of fatigue among truck drivers, Sensitization of driving test applicants about being Good Samaritans, Road Safety pledge, Technical session on FUPD, SUPD, RUPD and enhancement of Road Safety via installing of vital red light or retro reflective sheeting on vehicles to avoid rear collision, Special Drives on National Highway to check overloading, stop wrong side driving and non-wearing of helmets by two wheelers drivers and non-wearing of seatbelts while driving by 4-wheelers drivers etc to spread the message of road safety among all the stakeholders
