DDC Udhampur reviews implementation of PC & PNDT Act

Udhampur : A meeting to review the implementation of PC& PNDT Act in the district was today held here under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Dr Piyush Singla.The meeting was attended by Chief Medical Officer, Dr. K C Dogra, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital, Dr Vijay Raina; Dy SP, HQ, Dr Rohit Chadgal; DSWO, Er. Sajad Bashir Somberia; Consultant  Gynecologist, Dr Pooja Gupta; Consultant Pediatrician, Dr Deepak Kumar; Consultant Radiologist, DH Udhampur Dr Manisha Langar, besides Advocate  Jai Dev Salathia and President Jiyo aur Jeene do NGO Tariq Shah.Threadbare discussions were held on various issues which include registration & renewal of ultrasound centres, mechanism for monitoring and implementation of PC&PNDT Act, holding of IEC activities for general awareness etc.DDC stressed upon the members to make random checking of ultrasound clinics in the district for effective monitoring and implementation of PC&PNDT Act.  CMO was asked for installation of CCTV cameras in the private nursing homes. Dr Singla stressed on strengthening the Act in the district so that the defaulters can be identified/ penalized. He called upon to make the people aware of and publicizing the Jeene do helpline.The DDC stressed on creating mass awareness about the gender equality through advocacy and communication efforts.The members also discussed the measures to improve the implementation of the Act through organization of awareness programmes by health department in collaboration with NGOs, and workshops for ground level staff of the ultrasound clinics making them aware of the provisions of the Act.
