My Youth My Pride : Sportspersons pledge to fight drug menace in Kathua

Kathua : Jammu division continues to hog limelight for continuously conducting different sports activities under the banner of My Youth My Pride, special sports initiative of J&K Sports Council.A handball tournament was held at Army Public School, Janglote Kathua in which eight teams each in boys’ and girls’ categories competed for the title.

The Principal Army Public School, Dr.Vishakha Sharma presided over as the chief guest, while Gurnam Singh was the guest of honour.The chief guest encouraged youth to take active part in sports activities and make it a routine as sports help bring discipline into one’s life and build character.

The participants also pledged to fight the drug menace in the district and vowed to do their bit to nip the evil.Meanwhile, the closing ceremony of the Basketball tourney was held at Subhash Stadium Udhampur.

Six teams participated in the event, and the final was played between Early Riser Warrior Udhampur and APS Udhampur which was won by APS Udhampur by a margin of 40:29 points.Vikram Singh Slathia and Jatinder Varmani, Chairman and President Udhampur Beopar Mandal were present at the closing ceremony as the special guests.

Naveen Sharma, Manager of Subash Stadium Udhampur along with his staff supervised the whole event.Kabaddi and volleyball events were held at GBHHS School Doda. The four teams in both disciplines each participated in the event.

The Kabaddi title went into the kitty of Tiger Sports while Peace Sports became volleyball champions.The chief guest on the occasion was Neeraj Sharma. The event was supervised by the manager of Sports Stadium Doda Shamsudin Malik, along with the coach’s duo of Rameez Malik and Manmeet Kaur.

Meanwhile, in district Kishtwar the volleyball trophy title was clinched by the J&K Police team.The J&K Sports Council had teamed up with the Volleyball Association for the event. The final match of the trophy was played at Chowgan Ground.

In a well fought contest, District Police Kishtwar defeated Combine Volleyball Club by three sets to one. Six teams from the district were part of the event.Additional SP Kishtwar, Rajinder Singh presided over the closing ceremony as the chief guest while Vishal Sharma Dy. SP was the guest of honour.

The guests distributed the prizes and momentos among the participants.Kuldeep Magotra CEO and Mohammad Tariq, Joint Secretary Volleyball Association of J&K were also present among the guests.Vishal Kumar, Zorawar Singh, Shiyar Ahmed Wani, Kulwant Singh and Mudassar Ahmed officiated the event.
