Ministry of Power, District Administration Ramban celebrate ‘Bijli Mahotsav’ at Ramban

Highlight major achievements in power sector

Ramban : As part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’–to celebrate 75 years of India’s Independence, the District Administration Ramban in collaboration with the Ministry of Power on Monday organized ‘Bijli Mahotsav’ here in the Conference Hall Maitra.Chairperson, District Development Council, Ramban, Dr. Shamshad Shan was the chief guest on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson DDC said that the Bijli Mahotsav was being celebrated all over the country under the umbrella of Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @2047 to encourage public participation and getting across the developments in the power sector to the citizens at large.

The Chairperson said that the Bijli Mahotsav was being used as a platform to highlight the key achievements of the power sector.While highlighting the major achievements through short films, the Group General Manager, Sawalkote informed the participants that the generation capacity of India has increased from 248 GW to 400 GW, transforming the country from power deficit to power surplus.

He further informed that with addition of 1.6 lakh km transmission lines connecting the entire country into one grid running on one frequency, it has emerged as the largest integrated grid in the world.

It was informed that 100% village electrification (18,374) in 2018 and 100% household electrification (2.86 Cr) has been achieved with Rs 2.02 Lakh Cr outlay for system strengthening has increased power supply in rural areas from 12 hours in 2015 to average 22.5 hours at present.

“Fastest-growing RE capacity has been doubled from ~76 GW in 2014 to ~160 GW now, achieving 40% RE Gen” , he added. In his address, the ADDC highlighted the benefits of electricity and the unprecedented growth witnessed in the power sector over the past few years.

The event also witnessed several beneficiaries sharing their experiences.Other main attractions of the programme were cultural programmes, nukkad nataks, and screening of short films on the power sector.

Given the large gathering, all Covid safety protocols such as wearing of masks were adhered to by the participants. In addition, masks were also distributed among the attendees.
