‘Green J&K Plantation Drive’ kicked off at GGHSS Kothibagh, Srinagar

Srinagar : The Green J&K Plantation Drive under “Srinagar Smart City Mission” was today kicked off with the plantation of 200 saplings at Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Kothibagh, here.Athar Amir Khan, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (CEO Srinagar Smart City) was the chief guest at the event organised by Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Kothibagh. On the occasion, the CEO Srinagar Smart City informed that counters shall be set up in various areas of Srinagar city for free distribution of saplings to private individuals for plantation in the homes/land. This will usher in a sense of participation and belonging among the citizens resulting in more coverage.

During the event, it was emphasized to inculcate the habit of plantation among the future generations and children so that more and more trees are grown in coming years.The drive was the beginning of a massive plantation drive to be carried out by the Forest Department in collaboration with Srinagar Smart City Ltd.A Total of 765 saplings were planted today during various plantation drives in various schools of the Srinagar city. An estimated 5 lac saplings are to be planted under the Srinagar Smart city project within the Srinagar City.The plantation shall be conducted by various institutions/ departments and the saplings shall be provided for the purpose including to security agencies for creating green campus.Officers from Srinagar Smart City Ltd, Urban Forestry Division Srinagar, SDA and Education Department were present on the occasion.
