Good Governance Week : SHD Bandipora distributes 27 Sheep units among beneficiaries

Bandipora : The Sheep Husbandry Department Bandipora on Thursday distributed 27 Sheep units among beneficiaries at Konan, Sumbal and Hajin area of the district under Integrated Sheep Development scheme.

The distribution event was held at Konan, Shadipora and Hajin areas and was attended by District Sheep Husbandry Officer Dr. Showkat Ahanger, Account Officer to District Magistrate G. M. Rather, Dr.Imran Shah, Sheep and Wool Development Officer Hajin Dr. Nuzhat Wali, PRI’s, Beneficiaries and other representatives.

Speaking on the occasion, the District Sheep Husbandry Office said that the scheme envisages distribution of sheep units of 20 ewes under ISDS with a subsidy of 50%. He said these units are meant for educated unemployed youth for their economic upliftment.

Dr. Showkat said that efforts are on to cover maximum unemployed educated youth. He also complimented the beneficiaries and emphasised upon them to work with more passion, determination and dedication to earn a decent livelihood with dignity.

Sheep and Wool Development Officer Hajin said that steps are underway to tap the potential of sheep breeding in the Sumbal and Hajin areas and in this regard special focus is being given on generating awareness among youth to motivate them to adopt it as an economic activity.

Dr. Nuzhat said that the Sheep Husbandry Department plays a positive role in promoting sheep breeding in the Sumbal and Hajin areas. One of the beneficiaries, Aijaz Ahmad who has pursued BBA said that he was very happy to receive Sheep unit which will help him to earn a decent livelihood.

He urged youth to create their own business units and also take full benefits of government run schemes to earn livelihood which not only keeps away from depression but also helps to generate employment.
