Doda Admin mulls major crackdown on drug traffickers

Doda : Eighth (8th) district level committee meeting under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was held here today to discuss the measures to curb drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Vishesh Paul Mahajan. Senior Superintendent of Police Abdul Qayoom – the convener of the Committee, presented the latest developments and activities launched to make the district drugs free.

During the meeting, SSP, while interacting with the officers, asked them to take every possible measure/ to curb the menace and for breaking the supply chain.

He asked the officers to put in extra effort in destroying the ecosystem of Narco-trade and intensify the activities in the hot-spot areas. He directed them to utilise the services of VDGs for surveillance and make entry in the Beat books, Daily diary, and open personal files of drug peddlers.

He has issued clear-cut directions to withhold the verification of those involved in Drugs trafficking. SSP has directed his team down the line to make the district drugs free. No laxity in this regard shall be tolerated.

Later, threadbare discussion was held on various issues related to incidence of drug addiction, exchange of intelligence about the trends of drug trafficking, monitoring of illicit cultivation of cannabis, Opium, conducting anti drug abuse awareness programmes especially, in schools and colleges and rehabilitation of the addicts.

DM has asked the committee to spread the toll-free number 14416 throughout the district to have better surveillance and timely help to the addicts. The DM urged for monitoring and destroying illicit cultivation of cannabis and Opium crops by taking the PRI and other stakeholders in confidence.

He has asked to use Drones to locate the illegal cultivation in the district. Emphasizing on awareness activities, he directed the concerned departments to start massive awareness camps in schools, colleges, and other public places through pamphlets, Nukad Nataks, Rallies involving PRIs, students, and locals.

Prabhari Officers for schools were asked to focus on spreading awareness among the school children aware about hazards of drugs. The DM asked the Magistrates and Police officers to submit the asset/ property details of the persons suspected to be involved in Drugs peddling/ trafficking in the district.

“District administration has already received information of some people actively involved in Drug peddling, and a strict and exemplary action will follow soon under NDPS Act 1985” he added.
He further urged the police and civil administration to keep strict vigil against drug proliferation, consumption, and intensifying awareness against such addictive substances.

DM has asked the RDD officials and other concerned to declare panchayats drugs free so that district is certified as drug free, which he has already committed to the higher authorities.

He issued instructions to seize the vehicles and cancel their permission, which are found involved in drug trafficking. CMO Doda has been directed to ask the incharges of the hospitals to share the cases of drug overdose patients with police and the Excise department is asked to share the list of psychotropic drugs with the committee members and make it public also for general awareness.

The meeting was attended in person by ACR Doda, ACD Doda, SDM Assar, CEO Doda, CMO Doda, DIO Doda, DSWO Doda, ETO Doda, Assistant Controller Drugs Doda, and other concerned. ADC Bhaderwah, SP Operations Doda, ASP Bhadarwah, All SDMs, SDPOs, Tehsildars, SHOs and other civil and police officers attended the meeting through video conferencing.
