DM Ramban Mussarat Islam chairs NCORD meeting

Ramban : To review the different steps taken to curb drug abuse and narcotics trade in the district, Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mussarat Islam today chaired a meeting of the District-level NARCO Coordination Committee of (NCORD) here today.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Harbans Lal, ASP Gourav Mahajan, ACR, Gias-ul-Haq, SDM Gool, Tanveer-Ul-Majid, ACD Ashok Katoch, CMO Dr. Kamal Zadu, DSWO, Rahul Gupta, CEO, Dev Anand, Drug Officer Imtiyaz Ahmed and other concerned officers attended the meeting.

During the meeting a threadbare discussion was also held on various issues pertaining to incidence of drug addiction, areas of concern and hotspots of drug use and action taken by the concerned departments with regard to curb the menace of drugs.

Discussing action taken and measures to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district by implementing decisions and directions passed in previous meetings, the DM directed the CMO to compile a database of persons indulged in drug addiction to facilitate them for their medical treatment and recovery to save their precious lives.

CMO informed that Drugs De-addiction centre is working in the District Hospital Ramban. The Deputy Commissioner suggested a string of measures and asked the concerned to work with coordination at different levels to combat drug trafficking and ensure better coordination among all stakeholder departments and institutions.

The DM directed Tehsildars to submit the reports in coordination with Sarpanches regarding the status of drug addiction and cultivation of restricted crops used for addiction in their respective jurisdictions.

He directed CMO and Drug Inspector to intensify inspections of chemist shops, health centres and courier service centres to restrict illegal transport, sale and distribution of psychotropic drug and other banned substances in the district.

He also instructed the Drug Control Department to cancel the registration of such chemists who violate laid down guidelines under Drugs & Cosmetic Act. He further underscored that Ramban Administration has adopted a zero tolerance policy against drug suppliers and traffickers.

He directed all stakeholders to launch a massive awareness campaign. He also appealed to parents of teenagers’ and young children to keep watch on their children to prevent them from drug addiction.
