DC Ramban Mussarat Islam discusses drug eradication action plan at district Coordination Committee meet
Ramban : Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mussarat Islam today chaired the maiden meeting of the District-level NARCO Coordination Committee (NCORD) to discuss the action plan for curbing the drug abuse and narcotics trade in district Ramban.
Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Harbans Sharma; Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Gias-ul-Haq; Dy. DEO, Lal Chand, attended the meeting in person, while Additional SP, Rajni Sharma, Tehsildars and Station House Officers, besides other members of the Committee attended the meeting through virtual mode.
It was informed that the NCORD Committees will work in unison at different levels to combat drug trafficking and ensure better coordination among the Civil and Police administration.
During the meeting, the DC discussed threadbare various issues related to the incidents of drug addiction, areas of concern, age group of addicts, hot spots of drug use, and cultivation of illicit poppy, and cannabis in the district.
Informing the meeting that the issue has already been taken up with concerned authorities for establishing drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres in the districts, the DC directed Tehsildars and SHOs to adopt a coordinated approach for the destruction of illicit poppy and cannabis cultivations in their respective jurisdictions.
He stressed upon all stakeholders to launch a massive awareness campaign across the district, involving people from all walks of life including school children, youth, PRIs and the targeted public.
The ADC informed that the district-level Committee, comprising Civil and Police officers and the representatives from Excise, Forest Range Officers, Sub- Divisional Agriculture Officers and Concerned Education, Health departments and drug controllers, besides PRIs , will work in coordination with each other to achieve tangible results in curbing the drug abuse and narcotics trade in district Ramban.
During the meeting, Addl. SP, Rajni Sharma gave a detailed presentation and apprised the members about the overall scenario of drug abuse in the district and measures being taken to curb the menace with iron hand.
