5th District NCORD meeting held at Anantnag

876 Teachers trained through CBPs for early identification of vulnerable students

Anantnag : In order to curb drug menace in the district, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom today chaired the 5th District Level NCORD meeting.

During the meeting, the attendees apprised about the action taken report of previous meeting held. It was informed that various training programmes were held across the district to sensitise the people and victims about the ill effects of drug menace.

Chief Medical Officer apprised the chair that institutional capacity building / training programs were organized by Health department in which 876 teachers from Education department were sensitized and trained.

They were imparted training on identification, counselling of vulnerable school children and ensuring close communication with parents. He said 16 Essay competitions were held to create awareness directly among students besides, 120 rallies were also held in the district in which students from across the district participated.

Dr Basharat directed the stakeholders to frame the schedule for awareness and rehabilitation programmes. He said that February month will be dedicated for eradication of this social evil besides the routine activities.

NRLM was given task to involve SHGs for a sustained and month long awareness campaign involving other stakeholders also, to include awareness campaigns, identification and rehabilitation of victims etc.

He said that main thrust should be on identification of hot spots and counselling, rehabilitation, sports activities etc. The DC laid stress on the involvement of PRIs, SHGs, public icons etc. to counsel the young minds.

The meeting was attended by the members of the committee which include SSP, ADC, SDMs, CMO, CEO, DSWO, Officers of Drug Control Organisation, besides other stakeholders.
