New Delhi/Chandigarh : Shri Anandpur Sahib MP and National Spokesperson of the Congress Manish Tewari today sought the withdrawal of the government of India notification extending the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force in Punjab up to 50 kilometers inside the international border.Speaking during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha today, Tewari said, the law and order according to the Constitution of India was a state subject and allowing the BSF 50 kms deep inside Punjab amounted to assault on the federal structure of the country.

The MP said the Punjab Vidhan Sabha had already passed a resolution against the extended jurisdiction. He said, accordingly the government of India must withdraw the notification to extend the jurisdiction without taking the concerned state government into confidence. He said, the constitution of India made it amply clear that the law and order is a state subject and the BSF has no jurisdiction over the law and order of a state.
