Farmers’ Satyagraha has shown that truth and strong willpower will always win against injustice: Arvind Kejriwal

Chandigarh/New Delhi : Addressing the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal congratulated all the countrymen on the victory of the farmers’ movement against the three black farm laws. He said that the Farmers’ Satyagraha has shown that truth and strong willpower will always win against injustice. A resolution was tabled by Development Minister Shri Gopal Rai on the victory of the farmers’ struggle which successfully passed in the Vidhan Sabha Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal said that this is the longest movement in the history of the world; farmers were forced to a point where they had to protest against the elected government of their own country for a whole year. Never thought that farmers in independent India would be subjected to filthy abuses like anti-national, Khalistani, agents of China-Pakistan. If all the farmers of our country are anti-nationals, then what are the people who are hurling abuses at them. Farmers were crushed by a car in front of thousands of people in Lakhimpur but it was only after the Supreme Court intervention that the culprit got arrested.

For the last few years, people’s trust in democracy was fading away. This is the victory of democracy and it has increased people’s faith in democracy. CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal said that the assembly fully supports the pending demands of farmers including MSP, withdrawing all false cases against farmers. The CM said that the whole country demands that Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra ‘Teni’ be immediately sacked from the cabinet. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia said that farmers have set an example for the coming generations on how they can be heard by peaceful agitation against autocratic powers. The Deputy CM said that the Central Government has allocated a budget of Rs 100 crore to suppress the farmers’ movement.The single day session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly concluded today. Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia, Development Minister Shri Gopal Rai, Law Minister Shri Kailash Gahlot along with all the ministers and MLAs of the Delhi Government were present in the session held under the chairmanship of Speaker Shri Ram Niwas Goel. During this Delhi’s Development Minister Gopal Rai tabled a resolution in the House on the victory of the farmers’ movement. Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal was the first to support this proposal. After this, Speaker Shri Ram Niwas Goel passed the resolution with a majority.

Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “Exactly one year ago, the Kisan Andolan started after the Centre passed the three ‘Kaale Kanoon’ or black farm laws. They did not bother to ask or consult the farmers even once about this decision that ended up wreaking havoc all over the country because of their arrogance. Because of the fact that they have a majority in the Lok Sabha and lead the Rajya Sabha, they have been blinded by this sense of arrogance that they can get away with their tyranny. When the farmers came to Delhi they thought that the farmers would come, shout on the streets for a few days, get tired and go back. Last year on November 26th, this movement started on the borders of Delhi. It has been one whole year now and this movement has turned out to be successful. I want to congratulate the farmers of the country on this achievement and salute them for their bravery. This movement saw the participation of people from across the society. Some took part directly, some indirectly. Whoever wants to see this country prosper supported the movement, be it our women, our traders, our students, our journalists, be it the young or the old, everyone supported this cause across the lines of caste and religion.”

The CM continued, “I want to especially recognise the contribution of the farmers of Punjab in this movement. Specifically, how they lead everyone towards a common cause. I salute the courage of the women of Punjab who walked in unison braving the harsh weather and overcoming all hurdles. When we used to see them we could only think of how we’d need heaters and blankets to protect us from the winters of Delhi but all that the farmers needed was sheer will and courage. The farmers fought through tough summers, rains and even COVID and dengue. It is because of such determination that their demands were met.”

He added, “In my understanding, this is possibly the longest active movement in the history of humanity. Before this, in 1907, the farmers of Punjab had protested against the British for 9 long months. After all these years, the farmers were again forced to a point where they had to protest against the elected government of their own free country for a whole year. This wasn’t just the longest, but the most peaceful and the most patient movement I have come across. Those in power left no opportunity to slander them, hurl abuses at the annadaatas. They tried to wreck their spirit, what happened in Lakhimpur is absolutely ghastly and brutal. They crushed farmers who tried to raise their voice, and ran over them in front of thousands of people. They are so shameless that they would not have even arrested the culprits had the Supreme Court not intervened. The farmers still did not say anything. Like Arjun and the fisheye, all they saw was their end goal and did not try to move an inch away from it.”

700 farmers martyred in the movement; hope they are now at peace after their fight has borne fruit: CM Arvind Kejriwal
Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “700 farmers martyred in this movement while protesting against their own elected government. I bow down to all the brave martyrs and hope that they are at peace now that their demands have been met. There’s no end to the slander they had to face, they were called anti-national too. Are the farmers of this country who put in their blood, sweat and tears to feed us anti-nationals? If the farmers are anti-nationals then what do we make of those who were hurling abuses upon them? What do we make of those who were trying to crush the movement by putting tags like anti-national, terrorists, Khalistani, Chinese Agents, Pakistani Agents on them? Who would have thought that there’d be a day in the history of independent India where farmers would have to bear such disrespect and disregard? Yet, the farmers did not lose their cool.”
Even water cannons dried up in front of the courage of farmers: CM Arvind Kejriwal
The CM further stated, “The farmers had to bear with all kinds of violence, innumerable water cannons were unleashed against them. But the fact still remains that in front of the courage of the farmers even the water canons of the state dried up. They put up barriers on the roads to stop them. Even those barriers fell down when they saw what will-power looks like. The farmers not only breached through but also broke the arrogance and ego the Central Government had. This battle was fought just like how the fight for freedom was. And in fact, the biggest outcome of the movement was that it wasn’t merely the victory of our farmers but instead it marked the victory of our democracy, and all the people of this country.”
Did not let Centre convert stadiums into jails: CM Arvind Kejriwal
He continued, “For the past few years there was this visible trend that people were losing their faith in the fundamentals of democracy. They created an atmosphere which felt like those in majority could do anything they wanted, it felt like the country was being run on the principle of who can speak louder and not who is saying the right thing. Ask their own leaders, they’ll tell you the same they’re too fed up with it. This movement restored the people’s belief in the concept of democracy. This movement was like a Havan in which everyone got a chance to put in a spoonful of Ghee. When the farmers left for Delhi, our government was asked for permission to convert the stadiums into open jails. I instantly remembered the days of Anna Andolan. I’ve had to myself fight through such tactics. I knew that if they manage to stuff the farmers into the stadiums, the movement would fizzle out then and there. They wouldn’t let them out, no one would hear them. So I denied them the permission and let the farmers fight their fight.”

Did whatever we could to help the farmers on the borders: CM Arvind Kejriwal
He added, “The Centre was very angry at us. But we thought — they anyways pester us all around the year, we can bear with some more of their tactics but we must stand for what’s right. At every juncture we did whatever we could to help the farmers on the borders. Be it water, sanitation or any of their needs we fulfilled it. But even shamelessness has its limits. When these 3 vile laws were introduced, the BJP people squealed with glee and called it a masterstroke. But when these laws were withdrawn, they called that a masterstroke too! I can’t help but pity you and I wish God does not do this to anyone else.”
Complete support to the pending demands of the farmers. Teni should be removed from the cabinet immediately: CM Arvind Kejriwal
The CM concluded, “We give our complete support to the pending demands of the farmers. Teni should be removed from the cabinet immediately. I do not know what’s compelling the Central Government, but there must be some compulsion that’s forcing them to continue carrying the burden of this one man. Why do they not remove him? The nation demands that such a person be removed from their post with immediate effect. The farmers’ demand related to the MSP is completely legitimate and we too have done our research on it. Even from a political standpoint, the agriculture sector will get enormous benefits if the MSP is implemented. This sector would change forever. All the fake cases that have been imposed on the farmers should be withdrawn and the families of the 700 farmers who got martyred should also receive proper compensation. The farmers decide when they wish to get up, but as long as they’re there; we stand with them. We are with them, completely and at every step. I fully support the proposal presented by Shri Gopal Rai.”

A new chapter has emerged in the history of the country’s democracy with the farmers’ movement; should be taught to the coming generation: Dy CM Manish Sisodia
While thanking the farmers on the victory of the farmers’ movement in the Vidhan Sabha, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia said, “the farmers have set an example for the coming generation that how they can get their point across by peaceful agitation against the autocratic power. The farmers proved that when the people in power get arrogant and try to crush the common man of the country for the benefit of few people, then that autocratic power can be made to bow down through peaceful movement.”Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia said, “one year of the farmers’ movement has come as a new chapter in the history of the country’s democracy, which we should teach the coming generation that despite all the allegations, atrocities and conspiracies, the farmers protested with patience and won.”
He said, “during the movement, the voice of the farmers spread throughout the country and within a short time the farmers of the whole country got united, but it is a matter of great sadness that it took a year for the farmers’ talk to reach the Prime Minister. During this, the farmers were stopped at the Delhi border, the central government planned to convert Delhi’s stadiums into jails, but Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal stood with the farmers and did not allow Delhi’s stadiums to be converted into jails.”Deputy CM Shri Manish Sisodia said, “it will always be remembered in the history of India that when farmers were protesting peacefully, the Prime Minister sitting in power kept ignoring them for a year. During this, the leaders of the BJP and the ruling people described the farmers’ movement as foreign-supported, called the farmers terrorists. The central government allocated a budget of 100 crores to end the farmers’ movement. Tributes were paid in the Rajya Sabha for a plane crash in Jakarta, but not even the 700 farmers who died fighting for their rights were talked about.”
