Bandaru Dattatreya emphasises on inclusion of NCC as an elective course

Shimla : Governor Bandaru Dattatreya emphasized on the inclusion of NCC as an elective course in universities and colleges and said that we could move forward in the direction of nation building through NCC. The role of NCC in instilling the values of character, discipline and hard work and in shaping the youth into dynamic and responsible citizens of the country had been well recognized.The Governor was addressing the Vice Chancellors of State Universities through video conference from Raj Bhavan, today.Vice Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh University Shimla, Prof. Sikandar Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Agricultural University, Palampur, Prof. HK Chaudhary, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry Horticulture University Nauni, Solan, Prof. Parvinder Kaushal, Vice Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh Technical University, Hamirpur, Prof. S.P. Bansal, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Mandi, Dr. C.L. Chandan, Secretary, Education, Rajeev Sharma, Director, Higher Education, Dr. Amarjeet Sharma and N.C.C. Group Commander, Group Headquarters Shimla, Brig Rajeev Thakur participated in the conference.Secretary to Governor Rakesh Kanwar conducted the proceeding of meeting. Introduction of NCC as an Elective Course in Universities and colleges, Status of online teaching, examination, admission and post unlock preparation and review of involvement of students and teachers in Covid care activities were also discussed in the meeting.
On the occasion, the Governor said that most of the colleges were conducting NCC activities in a big way and some of them did excellent work. But it could be considered to include it as an elective course, he added. He said during the Corona pandemic, NCC cadets could play an important role in the supply chain. He said that the educational institutions were working on online education since last year but still there is a lot to be done in this direction. There was a need to review how much new technology we have adopted and have included the group in this direction and for this, we must do our own assessment, he added. He said that those who were working through this system should also understand whether this facility was being available to the students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He directed them to report the progress and efforts being done for removing the shortcomings in online education.Shri Dattatreya said that special online coaching and classes for students of tribal areas should be conducted so that they could be benefitted from this system of education. He also directed to focus on awareness programmes related to the Corona pandemic and Vice Chancellors and professors should send awareness messages to the students. He advised them to get fully prepared for conducting examinations for which existing available techniques should be put in maximum use.Earlier, Brig. Rajeev Thakur, N.C.C. Group Commander gave a power point presentation regarding the proposal of NCC as an elective course in universities and colleges on the occasion.
