LPU organized Startup Hackathon along with Punjab Government’s Department of Industries & Commerce

Jalandhar : The ‘Start-up Punjab: Business First’ wing of the Department of Industries & Commerce (Government of Punjab) and the School of Start-ups at Lovely Professional University (LPU) organized ‘Startup Hackathon’ event at LPU Campus. Hackathon’s tagline was “addressing the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by students”.The event proved an apt answer to ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ as established by the United Nations Organization (UNO) by tackling real-world issues. For this, 15 teams based on selected 62 LPU students participated. The teams worked continuously for two days to come up both with start-up ideas and also draw those out in the stipulated time period.

Each of the 15 teams played an important role. The team comprising students Harshit Chauhan, Bhavya Grag and Shivang Sharma won first prize for their addressing idea on the topic- ‘Decent Work and Economic Growth’. The team of Himanshu Ranjan, Dikshit Kukreja and Khushi were declared second for touching “Sustainable Cities & Communities” issue; and, five-member team of Manan Aggarwal, Kaustabh Saha, Biswapriya Roy, Neha Thakur & Sudhanshu Dahake were at third place for working on ‘Zero-Hunger’.
All of these three teams received cash prizes of Rs 20,000; Rs 15,000; and, Rs 10,000 respectively.LPU has always been a hub for innovation; entrepreneurship; and, start-ups as it keep on organizing countless sessions with industry leaders and successful entrepreneurs. Over the years, it has bred numerous thriving start-ups like “Syntax Edutek” by Amit Kumar (MBA) listed among the top 50 international track in Startup Wheel 2021; “Sixinterns” by Tharun Kumar Vulli (B.Tech.); “Micro-house OPods” by Perala Manasa (B.Tech.)- the first of its kind in India; “Enviropromise” by Sai Abhinay Chepuri and more. There is a long list of amazing start-up ideas that are helping people from different sections of the society as well as students of the university.

In fact, LPU strives to establish a culture of entrepreneurship and start-ups among the students by inculcating creative thinking and the sense of addressing global and local challenges. Thus, LPU students bring out the best in them to cater to the demands of the people. Instead of being job seekers, they go ahead with amazing start-up ideas and become job creators. Acknowledging LPU’s such chronicles, the Institution’s Innovation Council, Ministry of Education (Government of India) has selected LPU as a ‘Mentor Institution’ for Innovation & Entrepreneurship for other institutions.
