Jalandhar : With an aim to reduce reporting time of positive cases,Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori today directed health authority to conduct all RT-PCR tests for samples belonging to district at local RDDL viral testing laboratory located at Ladowali Road.While visiting the RDDL lab to review the current testing capacity, the Deputy Commissioner accompanied by ADC Jasbir Singh said that it was need of the hour to reduce the reporting period of testing results to stem the virus spread. He further mentioned that the local lab delivers results within 24 hours, however the samples sent out of district takes a few days for reporting. He said that the health authorities could start the treatment of positive cases if they get the report in minimal time paving a way for contact tracing and isolation procedures of those reported positive. He asked authorities to send all local samples at RDDL lab to ensure reporting of results within 24 hours.The RDDL lab has the capacity to test as many as 1000 samples daily, which would be upgraded to 1500 and more gradually. He also said that the animal husbandry department had been asked to initiate procedure to revamp the testing capacity of lab.Pointing out further, Mahinder Pal Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Department said that on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori, a request had already been made to health department to provide requisite machinery to enhance the testing capacity of laboratory to 1500 from existing capacity of 1000 tests daily. He also mentioned that a proposal was also sent to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot to start third shift at this lab. Once permission to hire requisite staff is received from the university, the third shift would be started, he added.
